WEEKEND GETAWAY! Stay At Kimpton Rouge in Washington D.C. & Get Your Sexy On!

All you need to change your perspective is a 24-hour getaway. The key? Find a location that’s not too far from home, make sure it has incredible attractions everywhere you turn and stay in a kickass hotel.

That’s why we picked the coolest hotel in D.C. for our overnight stay: Kimpton Rouge Hotel. Conveniently located near Dupont Circle, this former apartment building turned boutique lodgings has one goal: make you “feel your sexy” throughout your stay.

Upon arrival after an easy 4.5-hour bus ride from New York City, we were greeted by Kimpton Rouge’s Grecian garden statues. You’ve probably figured out Kimpton Rouge’s theme. Its lobby feels like a Molin Rouge performer’s boudoir with crimson walls, mood lighting…

…and the silver phone that connects you to the pleasant staff behind the front desk.

That sexy vibe continued into our suite which offers up a tufted red bed, picturesque sitting area, a bright orange mini-bar and a nicely stocked kitchenette.

We wanted to curl up in the leopard-print bathrobe hanging in the closet and soak in the vibe, but there’s so much to do in D.C. (and we only have 24-hours!).

While it may seem that Kimpton Rouge is in a residential territory, it’s only a short walk to 14th St., which is filled with restaurants, bars and lounges. Kimpton Rouge’s front desk manager suggested we dine at Commissary, a large American eatery where we scored breakfast in the early afternoon.

Our bellies full, we were ready to see the nation’s capital, and all the attractions are a hearty walk from Kimpton Rouge down 16th Street. You first hit the White House and U.S. Treasury.

Swing left to see D.C. main attractions, which include The Washington Monument, the reflecting pools of the Lincoln Memorial and the memorial itself, celebrating a president who really understood that “all men are created equal.”

We were keeping an eye on the time as we didn’t want to miss one of Kimpton’s signature touches, its Happy Hour. From 5 to 6 p.m., its staff offers complimentary glasses of red and white wine, along with light nibbles. We enjoyed ours in Bar Rouge, Kimpton Rouge’s on-site restaurant. This small space packs a big punch with a full bar and a crafty mixologist creating her own signature nips.

Bar Rouge’s simple dining menu offered up just enough bites for us to get our snack on – which you can do in the bar itself, or in the exclusive Rouge VIP Room, just off the bar. And the dining goes on until 10 p.m, which was great when we were ready for a late night burger snack.

After Happy Hour, it was time to explore again. Dressed to impress, we headed back out on 14th St. and discovered Le Diplomat, a stylish French bistro serving rose and a full menu, perfect for people watching and evening conversation.

I’m the kind of gal that has to get her workout, no matter what. Kimpton Rouge’s tiny gym offered all the basics.

But the real star attraction was the yoga mat back in our room where I got my morning Zen in.

I worked up an appetite, so was so happy that Bar Rouge does breakfast, offering complimentary coffee and tea, along with a for-purchase breakfast menu that can be enjoyed there or like we did it – back in the room.

I love good soap/shampoo/conditioner in a hotel. Kimpton Rouge rises to the occasion!

The best way to get your exercise on – and see D.C. at the same time – is on a bike. Borrow Kimpton Rouge’s resident one (in red, of course) and take in all of the city on two wheels.

Time goes way to fast in a 24-hour jaunt. We can’t wait to head back to D.C. and another stay at Kimpton Rouge. It’s where a multicultural gal truly can feel like she’s in the room where it happened.

GAL APPROVED! Galas Galore in NYC! Plus: Dear White People Is Back For Volume 2

WATCH. When we left off the first season of Dear White People, the students of  Winchester were protesting a town hall as the answer of a gun being pulled on a student – just because of his skin color – and Troy took matters into his own hands, breaking a glass door. Now we get to see the aftermath of everyone’s actions – or lack thereof. Returning to third-person narrative storytelling, each character’s story unfolds, revealing more of the racial divide that has been ingrained in the university since its formative years. So how will Reggie deal with his pain, confusion and anger of facing what could have been his final moment? Does Troy recover from his unlawful deeds and once again come out on top? Will Sam be able to find her way back to the mic to challenge thoughts on racism – and can she do it without her former boo Gabe? Well, the narrator knows – and he’s telling us to “watch closely.” We will. Dear White People, Vol. 2 is available on Netflix May 4.

SUPPORT. The DivaGals crushed the gala circuit this past month, attending events for several worthy causes. At Mission Society’s Champions for Children gala, we watched as the organization that provides for underserved NYC children and families honored Urban One, Inc founder Cathy Hughes; Mannie Jackson, 2017 Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer and philanthropist; LTC Francis W. Kairson, Jr., Ret., Director Emeritus, NYC Mission Society; BNY Mellon and International Flavors & Fragrances.

There were some great pieces to bid on at the ICL (Institute for Community Living) gala inside Roosevelt Hotel celebrating its 31-year commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities.

At Girl Scouts of Greater New York (GSGNY) Gold Achievement Gala inside Cipriani 42nd Street, the young leaders of tomorrow gave us a rousing demonstration of their technical prowess.

30 DAYS TO PARIS – How To Pack Light (And Find A Husband In 90 Days!)

In 30 days, the DivaGals are traveling to Paris! We’ll be there for the wedding of our one and only Image Gal Samantha von Sperling! If you recall, she met her incredible fiance during her “Find A Husband in 90 Days” challenge – and she came out on top! We can’t wait to read her book on the steps you need to take to find a husband in 90 days!

If we haven’t said it a 1000 times before, the DivaGals love to travel – how else can a multicultural gal learn about the world around her and rack up varied experiences from around the globe? We say get out and get out often. There’s no better feeling than having that passport stamped over and over again!

But DivaGals, if you are traveling round the clock (or just every other weekend) know that a bogged down Diva isn’t the way to go! If you find yourself sitting on top of your suitcase trying to shut it close for a three-day getaway; if you’re checking your list and wondering why your shoes and toiletries are taking up all the space; if you’re using your bathroom scale to try to determine if you’ll have to pay excess baggage fees after standing in an endless line at check-in, you aren’t packing smartly!

Here are three tips from the bride-to-be herself on lightening your load while traveling. You’ll spend less time worrying about leaving stuff behind and more time making memories that will never leave you!

1. Pick a Color Scheme. By packing clothes in a similar hue, you’ll be able to mix and match pieces in several different ways, which means packing less clothing to begin with. Blacks and neutrals are a great place to start – you can add pop of color with smaller and less bulky accessories. Also think about where you’re traveling to. If’ you’re staying at the Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa, you certainly won’t need a ton of jackets! Pick one that matches your color scheme and allows you to wear it in day and night. We favor a loose belted jacket that looks great over jeans, and your party dress!

2. Scarf-ssorize! Speaking of accessories, make sure you pack the ultimate one – a colorful scarf! A thin knit, colorful scarf can add a burst of color at your neck, become an extra layer of warmth over a simple dress and sarong your sexy bits at the hotel pool or beach. You can easily pack two or three and barely take up any room in your suitcase, and you’ll have endless style options all trip long!

3. Follow the “Three Shoe” Rule. I know what you’re thinking, “Three pairs of shoes only? Image Gal, please!” But if you are already following your pared-down color scheme, this shouldn’t be so much of a challenge. I like to travel with knee-high boots with a low heel that can be worn with pants, leggings and even a dress. I bring a pair of funky sneakers that can be for casual outings and the gym, and one fabu pair of heels! OK, you can bring ONE more pair. A roll-up shoe, like the Corso Como ballet flat, can work at the airport (easy on and off at security check) and for a day-long walking excursion. With metallic, leopard print and grommet designs, they are even cute enough to wear out for a night on the town!

Lighten your load — and then put it all in your Max Mirani suitcase — and see how good and clean you feel!

REAL DIVA! How Caprice Bryant Rebuilt Her Life After TWO Car Accidents Stole Her Memory

$

Meet REAL DIVA Caprice Bryant – who rebuilt her life after being in two car accidents that robbed her of her childhood memories. Learn how she bounced back – stronger than ever!

My name is Caprice Bryant, and I’m the owner of Excuse Free Fitness! Gym in Homewood, Ill. Back in 2007, I survived a serious car accident. I was 14 years old. My sister was driving – we were on our way to practice and she lost control of the car. We sped across traffic and went into a tree, and our Jeep’s roof caved in on my head.

I had to get staples in my head and I was left with a traumatic brain injury. I was unable to walk and had impaired cognitive abilities, to the point where I had difficulty following simple instructions. I spent the next five months in intensive physical, speech and occupational therapy.

I had to learn how to walk again, but after that, things started moving fast. I was on my high school’s track team and I was winning, but I still had to deal with the impact of my injuries. I’d be so weak after a race that I would pass out. Even with all that, I was named conference champion – wearing a knee brace! I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from doing what I loved.

After getting back on my feet and returning to a ‘normal’ life, it would be turned upside down again just three years later. In 2010 I was riding in the car while my twin brother was driving. We spun into a pick-up truck on my side of the car. I was left with devastating injuries which would affect me for the rest of my life.

I started having grand mal having seizures that would leave me gazing for long periods of time. And then on June 18, 2012, I had a seizure in class and hit my head on the concrete. I woke up in the hospital, and I didn’t know my name. They were asking me all these questions about what day it was and who is the president – I didn’t know any of that stuff. They sent my mom in, but I didn’t know she was my mom. I thought she was a nurse because so many had come in before asking me questions. Then they brought in my sister and my twin brother and my grandmother, but I didn’t know anyone. It was very overwhelming.

It didn’t make sense. I kept asking, “He’s my twin brother, but there’s nothing wrong with him. (He had a minor shoulder injury from the accident in 2010). Why is there so much wrong with me?” We’re close now, but it took some time. I would even be jealous of him because he got to go to college, and every time I tried to go to school, they told me I didn’t have the mental capacity to be a college student – I was a health risk. But now, he’s so inspiring to me. Our relationship is great because he doesn’t make me feel bad that I don’t remember. He’s a very cool dude.

My family tried to show me pictures and they were singing songs. It was a lot for me. Looking back, I appreciate what they did. They just wanted me to be well and remember. They were under the impression that my memory loss was short-term and would come back. But here it is, almost six years later – and I still don’t remember the first 19 years of my life. I have retrograde amnesia.

I didn’t even know that I was an athlete. That took some time because I was very weak and I was having two or three grand mal seizures a day. It took a very long time before I was active and doing things independently.

My dad took me to a gym less than a year after I lost my memory. People started coming up to me asking me if I could train them. I said no at first. But then I got certified and learned how to eat clean and reduce the inflammation in my brain, reduce my stress and get out of depression. I learned how to strengthen my body. And then I thought, it’s very selfish for me to keep these things to myself because I know how to do it. There was so much there. And I felt that I didn’t go through all of those things for me, I went through all those things to become an agent of change for people.

This summer I’ll be celebrating three years with my business Excuse Free Fitness! So many of my clients are dealing with things. One has Down’s Syndrome, another with MS. But if they can do it and I can do it, everyone can do it. When you’re dealing with a chronic illness, it becomes too much for people. But I just don’t think anything should get in the way of wellness.

I train all types of people, and I accept everyone, regardless their abilities or how many chromosomes they have in their bodies. I want everyone to know what it feels like to be healthy – to be able to run when they told you wouldn’t walk. I want to inspire people to not give up.

I got married last year to the guy I was dating before I lost my memory. He’s wonderful. He told my family, “I’m just going to get her to fall in love with me again.”

We Spent An Evening Painting Our Fave Real Housewives Of Atlanta – Find Out Who We Shaded!

So long to the days of thinking that in order to live the Hollywood dream, you have to move to Los Angeles or New York City. With a reputation that boasts a black female mayor named “Keisha” and 80 percent of sales contributing Black Panther’s billion-dollar success, Atlanta is becoming the busiest place on earth for TV magic – and easily becoming the “Hollywood of the South!”

Your Atlanta Gal Tsadiqwah caught up with a couple of our favorite reality TV stars: Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Shamea Morton and Fashion Queens‘ alum Derek J for an exclusive night of painting sipping!

Celebrity painter Antoine Donte, dubbed the “21st century’s Andy Warhol,” hosted the sexy “Sip & Stroke: The Real Housewives of Atlanta Edition” event at the Robin’s Nest of Buckhead. The evening, sponsored by Martell VS Cognac, included special guest Reigndrop Lopes, sister of late TLC member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes – who looks identical to her sister, alongside Shamea and Derek J!
Atlanta Premier Catering company served dinner and had everyone gnawing down on jerk oxtail and seasoned greens until the lights came on!

We were given blank black and white canvases of RHOA cast members: Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burress, Nene Leakes, Sheree Whitfield, Porsha Williams and Shamea Morton and were instructed to fill them in with hues of reds, yellows, greens, blues and browns. It was beautiful to watch each guest’s artistic expression and interpretation of the Housewife crew, and it was also amusing. The little person inside of me was rolling on the floor in laughter wearing a pair of sun shades and holding a tea cup, chileee!

At a single glance, it was clear to see which Housewife RHOA fans were rooting for on Sunday nights! Shamea and Kandi fan-portraits showed off a change of scenery with painted-in hair highlights, dark brown eyes turned hazel, and medium brown complexions turned dark chocolate on the two women.

However, in the end, Team DivaGalsDaily was the only “Team Nene” in the building and it felt oh-so-gooood! Now that is the tea, honey! Ten years in the game and the one-liner queen is still the tastiest peach in Atlanta! No shade!

If you missed the epic, three-part, The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion special, catch it on Bravo TV now! According to Nene “Shade” Leakes’ Instagram, she says she has “closed the door” on her ten-year friendship with Kim Zolciak and Sheree – you’ll want to see all of this tea spilled on TV for yourself!

30 DAYS TO PARIS – Five FREE Things To Do In Paris, The City Of Lights

Hello lovely Divas! We are continuing our countdown to Paris next month for our fabulous Image Gal Samantha von Sperling’s wedding! Between the “I dos” and “Mazel Tovs,”, we will definitely have some time to check out this most amazing city. Indeed, Paris is one of the world’s most visited tourist destinations because it has so much on offer for all people – you can focus on the culture, the gastronomy, the shopping, the art or just the sightseeing! We’re so excited to be getting out of the escape room known as New York City and checking out all that Paris has to offer!

Having said that, we know that Paris isn’t particularly cheap (so we’ve been saving up our coins!). But we Divas are a smart bunch. There are plenty of free things to do in Paris that won’t cost us a penny and will still immerse you in the wonders of this intriguing city.  Of course, we wanted to share our some of the free $.99 spots we’ll be checking out – so you can add them to your Paris itinerary when you make it to the city d’amour!

Notre Dame Cathedral. Most people have heard of the hunchback of Notre Dame as a child (Disney even made a movie about it!). Considering just how popular it is, we’re were delighting over the surprising news that there’s no charge to enter the gargoyle clad Notre Dame Cathedral.  This gothic landmark is impressive to view from the outside alone, particularly at night, when lots of people walk up the steps to view the sun setting over Paris – often with a bottle of local wine. Insider Tip: if you want a picture perfect view of Notre Dame itself, the general advice is to not get too close, as there are a few particularly good viewing points along the river. You know we’ll be getting our Divalicious shot that way!

Basilique du Sacré CoeurThis white marble church offers incredible views over the Parisian skyline. While the best time to visit is at sunrise, we know that’s gonna be kind of early for us Divas (especially since we’ll still be five hours behind on NYC time!).  You can make it just before sunset too – this way you can see the pink and purple hues that mark out the contrast between day and night.  Basilique du Sacré Coeur stands on top of a hill in the lively Montmartre district, meaning after we have watched the sunset, there will be plenty of things to do in the local area such as going to a bar or having dinner. Plus, as its known for being the more bohemian and arty side of town, there willl be some good deals once we get away from the tourist track. Insider Tip: With regard to the church itself, you can enter for free, however, you will have to pay if you wish to climb the dome or enter the crypt.

Wall Of Love. Are you ready to feel the love? Not too far from Basilique du Sacré Coeur lies an interesting wall, known as the “Love Wall” which is a mural with the words “I Love You” written in hundreds of languages. It was created by calligraphist Fédéric Baron and mural artist Claire Kit in 2000, and perfectly placed in the city known for romance. We’re pretty sure we’re going to love Le mur des je t’aime!

The Eiffel Tower at Parc du Champ de Mars. Ok, visiting the famed wrought iron lattice tower itself isn’t free, but the park it’s in is a vibrant spot, both day and night. It’s kept in pristine condition and there are always plenty of people around, making it safe and the ideal choice to sit with a fresh baguette, local cheese and glass of red wine.

La Promenade Plantée. Ladies, when you visit Paris, bring your walking shoes! You can hike this nearly 3-mile tree-lined trail to discover some of the most interesting parts of Paris, and at times, offer a bird’s eye view, c’est parfait for photos. We say do it in a pair of Cat Footwear, known for their chic ruggedness.

It’s Upfront Week starting Monday when the five broadcast networks give the first sneak peek to their new shows for fall. But CBS is so excited about two of its new shows that it’s already announced their lineup. (Since CBS has had a bit of a rep of being a network that’s doesn’t invest in diversity, this is probably a really smart move!)

According to Deadline, Cedric The Entertainer is starring in Welcome To The Neighborhood, a comedy where he plays a guy who’s not to keen on his overly friendly new neighbors – oh, let them bring over a bundt cake!

Damon, whose project is still untitled, will play a guy who lives with a Harry Styles‘ inspired roommate. And yep, the One Direction alum is on the production team.

Of course, for fans of The Big Bang Theory (which we say appeals to all ethnicities), tonight is its big 11th season finale! Amy and Sheldon are finally getting married, and guess who’s coming to dinner – their entire families! Guest stars include Kathy Bates, John Ross Bowie, Mark Hamill, Courtney Henggeler, Lauren Lapkus, Laurie Metcalf and our fave Wendy William‘s sub Jerry O’Connell. Catch it tonight, Thursday, May 10 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

FOX UPFRONT 2018 – New Fox Has Rel From Get Out!

My lovely Divas! TV DivaGal here to bring you all the juicy news from the broadcast network upfronts. First up – New FOX!

Wondering why I’m calling it “New FOX?” If you haven’t heard, Disney (which already owns ABC) has put in a multi-billion dollar bid to take over FOX TV properties. Yep, Mickey could soon be making a guest appearance on Family Guy (whoops, forgot that’s already been done!).

At New FOX, they are all about broadly appealing dramas and comedy, star-studded unscripted series and lots of sports. Here’s the 411 you need to know about 9-1-1 and all New FOX’s new deals!

9-1-1 is FOX’s dream property! Expect to see more of Angela Bassett‘s killer arms in her emergency saving blues. Also, Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the series. She’s not a woman of color, but with a body like hers, we can claim her as one of our honorary own!

Beat Shazam is also back for season two! As Jamie Foxx says it’s all about music bringing everyone closer together – and it’s about family, baby. Indeed, he and his DJ daughter tore it up at the FOX Upfront party – along with DJ Khaled!

Don’t worry – your Empire and Star aren’t going anywhere! Picked up for season five and three respectively, they’ll still dominate their Wednesday night lineup. And The Simpsons is celebrating its 30th season – making it the longest primetime scripted series on TV.

Across TV this season is all about the switcheroo. At New FOX, they’ve given up Brooklyn Nine-Nine to NBC and picked up ABC’s long-standing series Last Man Standing.

Here are the new shows you’ll want to see this upcoming season!

Rel (Sundays) Remeber Lil Rel Howery from Get Out – he is the friend who figures out his pal Chris has been abducted. Rel’s got a new sitcom at FOX – and he’s basing it on his real life. While his real life doesn’t include being snatched up by body-stealing white people, it does revolve around his wife leaving him … for his barber! We think losing your prized hair care professional is much, much worse. The comedy also stars Sinbad as his dad!

The Cool Kids (Fridays) The lives of three male senior citizens at a retirement home are turned for a loop when a gal takes the spot at their table that belonged to their recently departed pal. And she’s definitely not one to sit quietly and let the rest of life pass her – or them by. Baby boomers watch more TV than anyone, so this show is just right for them. And while we don’t think series star David Alan Grier is old enough to be retirement age, it’s fun to watch him play like he is.

The Passage (Midseason) Based on a best-selling trilogy of the same name, The Passage is about Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. And like usual, the fate of humanity rests on the shoulders of a black woman – though this one’s a child, played by Hidden Figures ‘ Saniyya Sidney – who is just 11 years old! #WBWD Mark-Paul Gosselaar plays an agent who becomes her surrogate father, determined to protect her at any cost. A diverse cast, epic psychological thrills – we say sanitize yourself and watch!

RENT (January 27, 2019) FOX is bringing the late Jonathan Larson‘s acclaimed Broadway production about life, love and AIDS to the screen as a live broadcast. We. Can’t. Wait!

COSMOS: Possible Worlds (Spring 2019) FOX and National Geographic will air a third season of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, exploring, “previously uncharted realms, including lost worlds and worlds to come, and those that we may one day inhabit in a thrilling future we can still have.” Yeah, we couldn’t haven’t written it better ourselves.

NBC UPFRONT 2018 – Indian Family Life Comes to NBC. Project Runway Back to Bravo

Hello Divas! Luxury Gal here… When it comes to NBC, there is so much going on that we are just gonna focus on what got our attention.

Fasten your seatbelts because just like a country song, Project Runway, after living at Lifetime for a few years returns – a little worn but still fashionable – to her first boo BRAVO!

At E!, Busy Phillipps, who we consider an honorary brown gal, has taken a page from the Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers‘ playbook. She has transitioned from comedic actor to talk show host. Catch her on Busy Tonight.

One man’s poison is another man’s meat! Brooklyn Nine-Nine – canceled last week from FOX – has found a new home on NBC. That means we get to see Terry Crews “peacock” on anew network (Get it? No – We tried!), and SNL alum Andy Samberg is back at home.

Speaking of SNLAmy Poehler is producing a new sitcom called I Feel Bad. Sarayu Blue stars in the series as a busy mom with a career and family who’s trying to balance it all. She’s got an overbearing Indian mom, which makes us brown gals feel like we’re watching a mirror. The series looks like its a blend of the feature film Bad Moms and 30 Rock. We’ll definitely be watching and laughing because it looks smart and relatable.

You have heard the expression “It Takes a Village” … well NBC has a new series that is gonna make you break out the waterproof mascara because there will be tears. The Village (pictured up top) is a series about broken people who come together and form a supportive community in, well.. the village. We are presuming their Brooklyn apartment is rent controlled to accommodate the eclectic variety of tenants. Lorraine Toussant stars with a diverse cast.

Morris Chestnut leads the CIA type agency tracking down evildoers in The Enemy Within.  This time it’s personal because the bad guys have killed his girlfriend, and he needs to save America and you know you need to be packing heat and a bulletproof vest to do that so Morris keeps his shirt on, but he’s still looking good.

ABC UPFRONT 2018 – Eva Longoria’s Soapy New Drama. Nathan Fillion Back on ABC!

Let’s talk about the real reason we tune into the ABC Upfront – to see #WBWD Jimmy Kimmel eviscerate his own network (if only we could all do that to all our bosses!). And he didn’t disappoint this year – but we’ll get to that.

ABC is grinning from ear to ear as it has the no. 1 new drama, our fave The Good Doctor, the no. 1 new-ish comedy Roseanne and no. 1 new-ish reality series, rebooted American Idol. And since ABC hasn’t had a no. 1 show in 24 YEARS, they were making their enthusiasm real clear.

ABC’s little sister Freeform is dedicated to presenting authentic, engaging original content for millennials – and FYI, all their shows are executive produced by women! Building on the success of Grown-ish, creator Kenya Barris is bringing Besties to the network, which will examine class and relationships. We can’t wait for Life-Size 2, starring Tyra Banks as the doll that comes to life.

Also coming to the network is Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger. Two teens, joined by a childhood tragedy, learn of their supernatural powers – and how they must work together. Aubrey Joseph co-headlines the new series.

Back at ABC, where network entertainment president Channing Dungey looked resplendent in red, shared that TGIF is returning and Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless will anchor the night.

Dancing With the Stars is getting a pint-size version with DWTS Junior. And The Goldbergs gets its spin-off, Schooled, focusing on the lives of the teachers of William Penn Academy – led by Principal Glascott (Tim Meadows).

Ok, now all about Jimmy. First, he thanked everyone for the well wishes for his son, who conquered cancer and just turned one. And then he talked smack about Shonda Rimes for leaving ABC for Netflix (“rot in hell”); talked about ABC getting its new tagline “Forward Together” from a Hillary Clinton yard sale; and how FOX couldn’t even make a deal with the devil to get a hit from last season (think Lucifer and The Exorcist – both cancelled). He also talked about ABC’s new dating reality series The Proposal – where women compete to be paired with a man they never met – is the bachelor, without the bachelor. I mean, who will they rat out other girls too?

Now, shows you have to check on out ABC this upcoming season.

A Million Little Things (Wednesday). A diverse group of Gen X friends reevaluate their life choices after one of their pals commits suicide. We all have to be reminded to take a moment to appreciate every single breath we’re given. Romany Malco and Christina Moses star.

The Rookie (Tuesday) Yes, we brown gals love our Nathan Fillion! The One Life to Live/Castle alum plays a 40-something man who starts his second career as a rookie cop. We’ll finally get to see Nathan bring a series side to his roles – and we can’t wait.

The Fix (midseason) Marcia Clark created a series about an L.A. district attorney who put herself in exile after losing a high-profile case of an actor accused of murder. But she has to return when he’s once again accused of a crime.  Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje stars.

Grand Hotel (midseason) Secrets, lust and sunshine all reside at Rivera Grand, a hotel in Miami Beach. This Eva Longoria–produced series is filled with soapy drama – and of course, hot bodies in all flavors.

Try Whisky On World Whisky Day May 19 – Here Are The Brands

Divas and Whisky – it’s a pretty perfect combination! New DivaGal Muna Amadi had the chance to attend the World Whisky Day event hosted by Wythe & Mackay and featuring The Dalmore, Jura, and Shackleton scotch whiskeys. Technically, World Whisky Day isn’t until May 19, but you know the Divas like to stay ahead of things! Here’s her experience!

The setting at Cellar du Vin at Lafayette was the moody, intimate kind that just demands whisky, and there was more than enough whisky to satisfy demand! In the name of professional responsibility, I made sure to sample as many offerings as I could and thankfully there were plenty of hors-d’oeuvres available to alternate with the whiskies.

I started with the Shackleton cocktail because I can’t resist a drink that looks like it was made for a mermaid. The colorful concoction was absolutely yummy and the perfect starter.

Next, I made my way over to The Dalmore. Their prized offering is the King Alexander III, a whiskey aged for approximately 25 years in six different liquor barrels. Now, ladies, this is for special days or – if you insist – any day you need a drink of whisky that costs $12,000!

The six liquors that had been stored in the barrels before the Dalmore whisky went in were on hand for tasting as well. So, I was able to sample the Matusalem sherry before I went on the King Alexander III, a precious, complex yet smooth single malt. What a treat for a Tuesday evening!

After another stop by the hors d’oeuvres table, I sauntered over to the station of the Scottish-made Jura whisky where the bartender prepared a cocktail featuring the Jura 10, aged for approximately, you guessed it, 10 years, Slàinte Mhath! (If you watch Outlander you know is Scottish for “Good Health.”)

I followed that delightfulness up with a glass of the Jura Seven Wood on the rocks. I also took a turn with the virtual reality experience of Scotland that Jura made available, an experience that was surely better after a sampling of Jura’s cocktail.

Don’t worry, the night wasn’t over quite yet. To celebrate a successful event, all the attendees partook in a toast featuring The Dalmore King Alexander III. After this we were sent on our merry way home with a delightful treat – macaroons infused with The Dalmore 15.

So Divas, since World Whisky Day coincides with a certain royal wedding (ahem), you may want to throw a whisky cocktail into your watch night/morning festivities. Slàinte Mhath!

Ready To Visit Dubai? Here’s What You Need Know!

Divas, after we finish our trip to Paris, we’ll be ready for another exotic locale. How about Dubai! When traveling to another country with norms unlike our own, it’s important to know the culture so that we can avoid behaving in a way that can be perceived not so favorably.

Each country has its own etiquette, quirks and norms. Dubai, the largest and most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one of the seven emirates that make up the country, is a mecca for shopping and sightseeing. But before we book that ticket, we need to get to grips with some local customs to ensure that a trip is smooth and positive! Here’s what you need to know.

Tipping. Tipping is a huge point of contention between one country and another. In some places, tipping is expected as long as the service you have received is up to standard. In others, it is merely a bonus for staff members or an extra token of appreciation. Dubai is renowned for its high levels of service in most industries, so you probably are going to want to tip the staff who serve you. However, there are no set rules on tipping in the country, and it is by no means compulsory. Most restaurants include a service charge, but a ten to fifteen percent additional tip is common. Taxis are generally cheap, so leaving the change for the driver is also commonplace.

Drinking. UAE laws and licensing in regards to alcohol sales and consumption tend to be a little more strict than most countries. Drinking in public is illegal and could lead to an arrest, as well as any acts of drunkenness in public. Alcohol is served in licensed venues, but you will not be able to purchase it from an off-license without a special pass. You should also be particularly careful with your drinking during the month of Ramadan when different rules and customs prevail.

Excursions. Generally speaking, it’s best to book excursions through an agency who will be able to take the organization into their own hands and consequently life responsibility away from you and off your shoulders. Making use of group bookings in Dubai means that someone who has plenty of experience and knowledge of the local area and customs can ensure that everything runs smoothly on your days out. They will be able to advise you on where to go at what time, how to dress if you’re visiting religious places, and what you can and cannot do in any given area.

Hands and Feet. In Dubai, it is customary to accept food and drink with your right hand. This is also the hand that you will be expected to eat with. It is also advised that you avoid showing the soles of your feet and should not point your foot at anyone – this is because feet are generally considered dirty.

There are, of course, other customs and norms. But these are some of the most important to take into consideration throughout your stay. Study them, commit them to memory and then go get your ticket to explore this gorgeous, luxurious destination.
