Hello, our lovely Divas! Last week, we received a very special invite to the book launch party for The Geraldo Show: A Memoir. After we picked ourselves up off the floor, we decided, what the heck  – it’s always good to meet people of different mindsets.

Well, we can report that Geraldo Rivera – who’s been in the news business for more than 40 years – is a true gentleman. At the party, held inside Del Frisco’s Restaurant in New York City, Geraldo was surrounded by devoted friends like Tiki Barber and his family – including gorgeous wife Erica Rivera. He was kind and gracious – we loved how welcoming he was as he signed our copy of his new book!

What happens when a beloved preacher brings a new belief to his congregation – and it goes against everything that their religion has taught them til now.

That’s what happened to real-life pastor Carlton Pearson. After a personal epiphany, he brought the concept of universal salvation – the belief that someone does not have to be saved to go to heaven – to his church in the nineties. It caused a mass divide in his followers and he risked losing everything he had built.

The story also explores that rarity in the church sector – an integrated church. Back in the 1990s, Person’s Higher Dimensions Family Church was one of the largest churches in Tulsa, Okla. with a black and white congregation.

The role of Carlton is played to perfection by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who keeps us on edge as he delivers rhetoric that many considered blasphemous, but definitely makes you think. It’s a roller coaster ride as you wonder if one man so close to his maker can lose everything by bringing forth a perceived unpopular theory he says came from directly from his maker (sounds like another prophet from the past…)

Come Sunday‘s stellar cast also includes Danny Glover, Condola Rashad, How I Met Your Mother alum Jason Segel, Get Out star Lakeith Stanfield and Martin Sheen.

Olivia Pope arrived in 2012 embodying an empowered black female professional like we had never seen before. She was a fast-talking, designer-clothes-wearing, red wine sipping queen that many of us imagine ourselves to be as we watched, enjoying our own dinner of popcorn and red wine.

Pope, played by Kerry Washington, was the first African-American female lead of a hit TV series since “Julia” aka Diahann Carroll in the 1970s. How could anyone have envisioned this Washington fixer having steamy adulterous sex with a married sitting president of the United States? France maybe …. but not the USA!

We are going to miss her designer wardrobe and her ambition, ruthlessness and loyalty to her fellow “gladiators.” The series spawned live-tweeting parties with hashtags that trended on social media (we’ll be doing our own tomorrow at DivaGalsDaily FB at 10 p.m. EST!)

No there will never be another one. So thank you series creator Shonda Rimes and Kerry. You left an indelible mark and given us work wardrobe goals without the dead bodies as collateral damage. The biggest surprise? To see Olivia follow in her father’s steps and embrace the dark side … but at least she did it in style!

There are an array of sources of information and education available, and you can study and gain certificate online that can benefit you and your future career.

Perhaps you want to hone your skills in a particular area: learn a new technical skill like SEO. Become a yoga instructor. Teach yourself some serious kitchen skills to become the next MasterChef. Or maybe it’s just as simple as to take a driver improvement course online so you get to work easier. Don’t limit yourself to Netflix and online shopping; make the most of the great opportunities that could be sat in your lap!

Regularly Switch Off

Ok, we know we just told you that you can change your life by switching your computer on. Now we’re going to advise you do the exact opposite. It’s crucial that you switch it off (along with your phone and tablet) regularly to have a digital detox. Sometimes, you don’t need to waste time scrolling through loads of Instagram pictures. Missing a friend or family member? Don’t head to their Facebook account; arrange to meet up or head over to their place to catch up! Remember you used the Internet to find all those amazing courses? Now you have to shut it down and go!  

Introduce Yourself

You’ve done the research online. You showed up for your SEO/yoga/cooking/driving course. Now this is where things get interesting. Find someone in the room and introduce yourself. Keep it simple, say, “I’m so and so. So why did you decide to take this course?” Not only will you be putting someone else at ease who may have been hesitant to shut it down and go, they could become a great contact or a great new pal.

Several cultures were represented in the gorgeous and elegant display, which included designs from Kosibah and Kimera, and headpieces from Beauloni.

Cover model Liris Crosse ended the runway in a stunning gown, a celebration of her World Bride cover, as well as for new editor-in-chief Mimi Lombardo. What an event it was!

Some of Brooklyn’s best wedding vendors showcased their wares in the grand setting of Brooklyn Borough Hall.

It would be a bit of a lie to say we didn’t leave with visions of white dresses floating in our heads.

Hydrate. The first essential thing which gives us sexy skin is enough hydration. Our skin is full of water, and the water in our skin cells keeps it looking youthful and plump. Make sure you drink a lot of water during the day and incorporate lots of hydrating products into your routine. A hydrating serum for dry skin can be a great way to add both moisture and vitamins to the skin, and applying a moisturizer over the top of this will seal in that moisture and keep your skin looking stunning all day long.  

Pare Down. If you currently use 20 different products on your skin every day, you need to wind things down to three or four. The only products we truly need for our skin is a good cleanser, a toner and a moisturizer. Processed foods can cause our skin to clog up and become scaly, which is why we need to eat more natural foods like greens, proteins and starchy carbs. Most recently, cruising along in Brooklyn’s Park Slope, I came across Burger Village, a quaint, unique burger concept that defies the norm. From the “Impossible Burger” to “Wild Boar” option, I knew this was not a typical American burger place.

So here’s a bit of the backstory: this restaurant is one of three owned by Sam, Nick, Vick and Ravi, brothers who opened the first location in Great Neck, Long Island. The concept of Burger Village allows for a group of hardcore carnivores and equally discerning vegans to come together at one table and debate over anything but the food.

The sustainable wood decor is welcoming and comfortable and actually made by the very talented hands of one of the owners, Nick. Everything in the restaurant is recycled or refurbished; there’s nothing wasted. From the veggies to condiments to the burgers, everything is organic, locally sourced and sustainable. Environmentally friendly and great food? Can’t go wrong!

We heartily dove into a fresh spring mix salad with greens, cranberry and extra avocado to start off our meal. Yes, at Burger Village, you can have it your way. If you’d like to add a little jalapeno to your kale salad, go right ahead. “The salads are made to complement the burgers, you can even combine your burger with the salad,” said owner Nick. “An easy low-carb option, and you still get to enjoy a burger.”

Next up were the delicious basket of savory fries and onion rings called Frings, and organic chicken fingers with an assortment of exclusive dipping sauces, all made in-house and enhanced the delightful taste of everything we had.

Enough with the sides pieces already; we were here to go for broke on a burger. This is where the real magic happens: there’s literally a burger for everybody-some options include turkey, salmon, ostrich, boar, and one their best sellers, the Impossible Burger. Burger Village was actually one of the early pioneers of Brooklyn eateries to offer it.

The Impossible Burger looks like a juicy beef burger on a tasty bun. I had it with cheddar cheese and sauteed onions, with a mix of their exclusive chipotle BBQ sauce and sweet mustard. It has incredible flavor and texture. I wanted to eat the whole thing but had to save my appetite for the next one.

Moving along to the Salmon Burger, I had it prepared at the suggested temp with sauteed onions (can you tell I love onions) paired with lettuce, tomato, avocado, tartar sauce, fresh cilantro, and a signature sauce. This salmon was very tasty and flavors of the signature sauce added to the deliciousness.

The meal ended sweetly with a chocolate lava cake with organic vanilla ice cream was just what I needed to complete a culinary explosion of exotic flavors and pairings.

The next day the two half burgers were even more satisfying reheated for lunch.

I sat pleasantly plotting my next visit back to Park Slope to try even more choices.
